On this webpage we will record what different groups have learned about marketing religious books. (Go back to Method)
BOOKSTORE MANAGERS AND BOOK DISTRIBUTORS
For the New Church to grow with the Method, New Church people need to get interested in distributing and selling the Booklet, and so some need to become book distributors. It is doubtful New Church books will ever be sold in normal book stores, like Barnes & Noble, Super Crown and Borders. So we will have to create our own chain of bookstores. Somewhere among the 80% of the members of the New Church we will have to find a number of people who are willing to be bookstore managers and book distributors.
The bookstore manager is the person who maintains a bookstore in the church group where he/she is a member. That manager makes sure that the bookstore is always supplied with books, who loves these books and is willing, interested and able to talk about the store's contents. It has been proven in Glenview when a person is really interested in the book store, and is there every Sunday, sales will go up dramatically.
The book distributor is the person who is seeking new places where the booklet will be displayed and sold. For we want to sell the booklet not just in the church bookstore but also in other bookstores in the world outside the church.
DEALING WITH OUTSIDE BOOKSTORES
1. I picked a bookstore (in a university or hospital or a church), and with my business car and a booklet, simply asked if they would sell it. Some will buy a few copies, others will take a few on consignment. To take on consignment means that they will accept a certain amount of copies, display them in their store, and sell it for a certain price. Once sold they will pay you an agreed amount of money. All this goes into a consignment contract. (E-mail me for a copy of such an assignment contract).
If they are willing to display the booklet in an acrylic box instead of just on a shelve, the booklets are more visible. It is very easy to make such a box yourself. Ask me and I will give you more information.
I will be responsible for bookstores and gift stores in my area. But other areas around a New Church society need such a person too, and I hope and pray that many will write me and tell me they feel a call to such work. I will help you get started. All I am asking you is to spend a few hours per week on a call to a potential bookstore.
I suggest such bookstores sell for $6.50 and the book distributor gets $5 for New Church Outreach.

DEALING WITH DIFFERENT CURRENCIES
The booklet has been printed in USA and paid for with US currency, So
it needs to be repaid with the same currency. But the booklet will be sold
outside the US, for example Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa,
England and Continental Europe. Here are ways to deal with this problem:
1. If you buy just one copy buy $7 in cash, enclose it in a bubble
cushioned mailer, so it cannot be detected, and mail it to New Church Outreach,
POB 342, Placentia, CA 92871. This has been done successfully
in several cases.
2. If you want to buy a quantity for a bookstore, I suggest you first
email the quantity and ask for a price, and then you use the same procedure,
except I would insure the contents of the envelope.
3. I also suggest we consider opening a bank account in the name of
New Church Outreach, and you then can deposit the money in that account.
